Top 5 Detox Cleanses – Liver, Kidney, Colon, Gallbladder & Candida

The Summer Months Are An Excellent Time To Detox, Cleanse & Tonify The Body

Summer is here. It is the time of year that many of us enjoy being outdoors enjoying activities from baseball to b-b-que. During the warm summer months, our diets often change. We let go of the heavy foods we consumed during the winter and entertain a lighter dinning fare. We no longer want steak and potatoes. Instead, our bodies naturally begin to crave fruits and vegetables, salads and slaws.

Our desire to consume liquids to quench our thirst and rehydrate our bodies also increases.

The summer months are also an excellent time to cleanse and tonify the body. Cleansing the body can be likened to performing spring-cleaning on your homes. During a spring cleaning we clean out closets, dust, scrub and purge. When we are done our house always looks and feels better. Cleansing the body can do the same for you internally. It can leave you looking and feeling better.

    Detox Cleanse Basics

There are a large number of cleanses you can do to support the bodies functioning. I will be sharing with you some of the more important ones. Before we get into specific cleanses, here are some basic things you should do regardless of the cleanse you are on. The only exception to this would be if the cleanse you choose requires a period of fasting.

    1. Eat a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables. At a minimum, try to eat at least 1 piece of fruit and one leafy green salad per day.
    2. Eliminate processed prefabricated foods from your diet
    3. Drink plenty of water and when I say plenty I am talking about a minimum of 64 oz a day. Remember, water is water. It is not coffee, tea, sodas or milkshakes. They do not count towards your 64 oz total.
    4. Get in some exercise every day. Take a walk at the park. Play catch with your kids. It does not matter. Movement is movement and movement helps to stimulate bodily processes.

Here are some cleanses you can try if you are interested in purifying your body a bit deeper. You do not have to do all of them. Pick the one that seems the most appropriate to you. Doing something is always better than doing nothing, so do something – even if all you can do is cut out your morning donuts that is something. It also puts you one-step closer towards healing and enlivening your body.

    Master Detox Cleanse

The Master Cleanse is touted as a whole body cleanse. It claims to be a way to cleanse the body of toxins such as pesticides, hormones, prescription drugs, chemical fertilizers, heavy metals. It is also said to help eliminate the cravings associated with drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and eating junk food. Habit-forming beverages such as Coffee, tea and cola drinks are also said to lose their appeal after this cleanse.

The Master Cleanse is remarkably simple. It involves drinking fresh lemon, maple syrup, water with a dash of Cayenne pepper. While you are doing the cleanse, no solid food are supposed to be eaten. Many people recommend doing the cleanse for 10 days however some will stay on it even longer. If you have never done this kind of cleanse before doing it for 3 days can still provide you with healing benefits.

If this cleanse seems too intense for you there are a number of other ones you can try. They are targeted to specific organs and do not require an extended fast.

    Liver Detox Cleanse

One of these would be doing a liver cleanse. We live in a toxic world. The livers job is to remove harmful substances from the blood and converts them into substances that can be eliminated. Over time, our liver can become congested with toxins. This impacts its ability to support its many processes.

Herbs such as dandelion root and milk thistle are often used to cleanse the liver. If you decide to promote liver health, start slowly with your supplements and build up over the first few weeks. A liver cleanse, depending on how intensely you do it typically lasts from 1 to 3 months.

A number of commercially available liver cleansing programs can also be purchased to support liver health.

    Gall Bladder Detox Cleanse

Alternative Health - Cleanse - Detox

Associated with the liver is the gall bladder. Its primary function is to store and secrete bile, which helps us digest fats. In today’s society, it is very common for people to develop gall stones which inhibit the movement of bile through the gall bladder. Symptoms of gall bladder issues include abdominal bloating, intolerance to fatty foods, belching, intestinal gas and indigestion. If the congestion is severe, you might suffer what is called a gallstone attack. A gallstone attack manifests as steady, sever pain in the upper abdomen that can last from 30 minutes to several hours.

Herbs that support the gall bladder included safflower and turmeric. They work well to thin body fluids as well as aid in the digestion of oils.

You can take gall bladder cleansing to a whole new level by doing a Gall Bladder flush, especially if you are experiencing symptoms of gall bladder dysfunction. During a gallbladder flush, 1-2 cups of olive oil are consumed to simulate the gallbladder into releasing bile. This increased demand on the gallbladder to release bile causing it to push the gallstones out.

Do some liver cleansing before attempting a gall bladder flush is something I recommend to my all of my clients. This ensures the liver is working properly. It also helps to break up and congested bile in the liver.

    Colon Detox Cleanse

The colon is another organ that can use a tune-up every so often. Our Western diet doesn’t supply the body with the essential enzymes and fiber it needs to eliminate wastes. This can result in a buildup of toxic waste material in the colon. Cleansing the colon can help to promote intestinal regularity while it supports the elimination of toxic wastes from the body.

Fiber, such as psyllium hulls are the primary supplement used when doing a colon cleanse. Extra water should always be consumed when ingesting any fiber product. Some people like to include a small amount of bentonite clay into this cleanse to help absorb toxins from the intestinal walls.

Colon cleanses are typically done over a period of 2 weeks to a month. Once completed, supplementation with a high quality probiotic will help to repopulate the colon with good bacteria and support proper elimination.

    Candida Detox Cleanse

When talking about intestinal health we need to spend a minute talking about Candida.

Candida Albicans is a destructive yeast infection that begins in the digestive system and little by little can spread to other parts of the body.

It can manifest with a multitude of symptoms including constipation, diarrhea, colitis, headaches, bad breath, mood swings, canker sores, muscle and joint pain, congestion, severe itching, PMS, fatigue, kidney or bladder infections to name a few.

Candida lives on sugar, so the first step to a successful candida eradication necessitates the elimination of sugar. This includes starches like those found in breads and pasta. A diet comprised of primarily vegetables and proteins are the most effective in eliminating Candida from the body.

Supplements that work to do away with Candida include Garlic, Caprylic Acid and Pau d’ Arco (Taheebo tea), olive leaf extract or wild oregano oil.

In addition, supplementation with Lactobacillus Acidophilus or Bifidophilus daily is needed to reintroduce the good bacteria back into the intestinal tract. A number of commercially available products can also be purchased to support both colon and Candida cleansing.

Cleansing programs such as the ones mentioned earlier plus ones we have not discusses are available at your local health food store.
